Critter Companion

Critter Companion volunteers provide exercise, socialization and the extra TLC that the animals in our care so desperately need.  Must have good physical strength and the ability to handle animals that range from being shy to rambunctious.  Volunteers between the ages of 13 and 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

• Responsible To:  Shelter Director
• Job Objective: To provide companionship, exercise and socialization to the dogs and cats.
• Duties Include: Taking leashed animals out for playtime and walks, socializing the animals and some minor grooming.
• Days/Hours Needed: Anytime during business hours.
• Training Required: On-the-job orientation and training.

Volunteer Dog Walkers

Colleen Garland and Marj Smith have offered to host our one-hour training sessions for CDHS volunteer dog walkers.  This training is designed to help all dog walkers be safe and consistent in their handling of the dogs, hopefully, helping our dogs become more obedient and more adoptable.  Training sessions are scheduled for the second Saturday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the CDHS dog building.  If you walk dogs at the shelter or would like to volunteer to do so, we encourage you to contact us and sign up for this fantastic, free session.
