Dog Days Deals Strikes Gold

CDHS's annual Dog Days Deals Rummage Sale hit the mother lode this year.  The shelter was able to raise more than $7,000 because of the generosity of our donors and the good shopping skills of our customers.  Everyone who arrived to hunt for some new treasures walked away with boxes full of goodies.

"We were so excited by the amount of donations," said Sue Buchholz, Shelter Director.  "For about three weeks before this annual sale, we work like crazy to organize all the items.  On the day of the sale we round up as many volunteers as we can find to set out the tables and line up the items.  Then we hope for great weather and a bunch of savvy rummagers to help us out."  The weather held during this year's sale and visitors bought table after table full of trinkets, books, clothes, toys and household goods.

"Many people ask us what happens to the leftover items," said Buchholz.  "We invite several other organizations to come at the end of the sale and help themselves to whatever they might need.  This year the God's Child Project took about 40 suitcases filled with clothes and a charitable group from Fort Yates filled up three vehicles, plus a large horse trailer with household items for their clients.  When something doesn't sell at our sale, we're glad to see those items go to other worthy causes."

The rummage sale continues to grow into a bigger and better fundraiser every year.  As it grows it also requires more volunteers to help set up, organize, monitor sales and pack up at the end.  If anyone is interested in helping at next year's sale, please contact Sue at 667-2020.  One afternoon of your time can do a lot to help CDHS.  Keep in mind that all the money raised is used to care for the pets at CDHS.  Special thanks to everyone who donated tables and to Bismarck Roofing and its employees for help with hauling tables and other items.
